**Training with Leon (fourth bell, ~4 PM):** Courtyard behind the chandler's shop. Fire combat sparring — Leon's volume vs. Phelan's precision threading. Twelve seconds integrated casting is the ceiling; Phelan holds twelve and a half (progress). Leon identifies the targeting drift at the thirteenth second. **Ledger intelligence (mid-morning, guild hall):** Ledger debriefs Phelan's three-site analysis. Asks too-precise questions about methodology — specifically how Phelan determined pre-Compact architecture and identified biological routing. Phelan deflects (attributes biological routing to Leon's expertise). Ledger files it, doesn't push. **Pathfinder seed #3:** Probing questions about investigative methodology go beyond management oversight — he's building a capability file. Either Ledger's network has a leak, the Compact is investigating independently, or Kae's name is more widely known than expected.

**Street investigation (afternoon, warrens):** Phelan enters the warrens from the canal side, following Ledger's territory boundary. Three conversations, escalating intel:

1. **Nut seller** (mid-fifties, unnamed): Protective lie — "Don't know that name." Practiced, routine. Not afraid of Kae or Phelan. Protecting someone. Door closed. Phelan buys nuts (three coppers).

### Ch06: The Right Reverend Carson

**Carson encounter (afternoon, Greywell Lane):** Phelan follows Greywell Lane into the commercial warrens. Notes territorial overlap — Kae's protector zone and Carter's supplier territory coincide. Arrives at Carson's chapel-workshop: heavy timber door, apocalypse-grade signage ("REPAIRS & FABRICATION" / "CHAPEL OF THE AHOLE — SERVICES GODSDAY"), the ugly Ahole shrine with fishbone and placard ("Ahole Provides (Terms and Conditions Apply)").
