Mere basically proposes...
Mere says to Phelan something like "We have been to preoccupied with Devod to deal with these, but we need to discuss something. I've decided we should get married".
Phelan is going to reel back at the second, he wasn't prepared for this. She said partner awhile back and he just assumed they were good. They aren't religious, there isn't a reason for them to do this other than outward appearances, and she doesn't care about other people. While the noise is processing this, He will then snap out of hyperfocus mode and instantly say "Do we need to see a priest?".
Mere will just blink at him and laugh saying "You're my partner, I don't care about a priest". She will then ask if he wants children, She wants children eventually, and her body has kind of put a clock on that. And it's just expected to be married before a child, these things have an order.
